Cochin
The Cochin chicken is a large, feathered breed known for its gentle nature and ornamental appeal. Originating from China, it gained popularity in the West for its fluffy plumage, which covers even its legs and feet. Cochins come in various colors, including buff, black, and partridge. Though not prolific layers, they are excellent brooders and attentive mothers. Their calm temperament makes them ideal for backyard flocks and family settings. Better suited to cooler climates, Cochins can struggle in heat due to their dense feathers. Valued more for companionship and show than production, they bring charm and character to any poultry collection.
